We talk to Cambridge International Examinations’ Deputy Director, International Network, about his busy first six months at Cambridge Assessment and how he believes he’s joined the organisation at a very good time.
I’m very lucky to have a role that offers such variety. I’m responsible for four great Cambridge-based teams in the International Network division:
• Our Business Insight team, who provide data and analysis to support decision-making. They’re also responsible for market research and competitor intelligence.
• Our Head of Schools Development and CRM Manager, who work together to build relationships with existing customers and manage new business opportunities.
• Our Marketing Communications team, who are responsible for managing our brand and corporate communications, and promoting our products and services around the world.
• Our Customer Support team, who sign up new schools, support existing schools, and handle over 130,000 customer enquiries every year.
After 11 years working overseas with the British Council, I was ready to return to the UK and keen to put my international experience in education to good use. It’s also important to me that I work for an organisation whose values I identify with, and Cambridge Assessment offers both of these things. I’ve been here for six months now and as I learn more about the organisation I’m getting involved in a wider range of activities.
All the teams I lead have been working on various large-scale projects over the last few months, so I've been able to contribute to a number of important pieces of work that will shape the way we operate in the future. I like the energy and optimism that comes with working for a growing organisation – I feel like I’ve joined at a good time.
In the longer term I’d love to gain experience across all the Cambridge Assessment business streams, but as a relatively new joiner I’m focused for now on developing my understanding of Cambridge International Examinations. By the end of my first year I’m really looking forward to celebrating the successful completion of some of the projects I mentioned earlier.
