The Association for Science Education (ASE) the largest subject association in the UK, is holding a conference in Liverpool, UK. The conference will celebrate over 100 years of the professional learning community that supports all those involved in science education from pre-school to higher education; members include teachers, technicians, tutors and advisers. It will offer over 350 sessions to focus on the resulting impact on students; learning and achievement including:

  • Updates from the exam boards
  • Assessment guidance
  • Curriculum development
  • Practical science ideas
  • Research into teaching practice
  • Insight into cutting-edge science
At this year's conference, Tim Oates CBE, Group Director of Assessment Research and Development, Cambridge Assessment, is participating in a panel debate, Talking Science Debate, on Friday, 5 January 2018 at 16:00 (GMT). He will discuss how Cambridge Assessment has been working on the complex interaction of different elements of education systems, seeking to understand the alignment and misalignment of curriculum, assessment, and other factors which drive activity in schools and the outcomes of education.

Our UK exam board, OCR, is one of ASE's conference partner this year, and it will be hosting 11 workshops throughout the conference. A common theme for each session is looking into the new curriculum designed by the board. It will focus on the review of the first assessment of A Level Biology, Physics Chemistry and Geology, by considering data from each exam and feedback from teachers. It will also look into how to prepare for the linear assessments to provide ideas and strategies for teachers and learners as they transition from modular to linear assessments.
