Five Nordic organisations of educational publishers – Danish Publishers, Icelandic Publishers Association, Norwegian Publishers Association, Finnish Book Publishers Association and the Swedish Association of Educational Publishers are holding a conference in Stockholm. The conference will celebrate almost thirty years of the Nordic partnership which started in 1989 in Copenhagen, Denmark. The two-day conference will bring together delegates to discuss key challenges and opportunities that the publishing industry could encounter as Nordic schools face a period of transition.

Cambridge Assessment's Group Director of Assessment Research and Development, Tim Oates CBE, has been collaborating with the Swedish Association of Educational Publishers (Svenska Laromedel), where he has been working on the form and function of textbooks and digital materials. Tim has been invited to speak at this year's conference. His presentation will be on Why textbooks count? and will focus on the role of textbooks and digital materials, exploring the key features of high quality materials.

More information about the conference and how to register can be found from the Delegia website.

Tim has carried out a lot of work on textbooks and in April 2016 he launched The Cambridge Approach to Textbooks. Subsequently he blogged about why textbooks shouldn't be scrapped in England which was published by TES.com. Visit the Blog section of our website to read about Why ditching textbooks would be to the detriment of learning.

Tim was recently featured in an article, The researcher: Learning material is the way to equal school from an online Swedish newspaper, Skolvärlden.
