Cambridge Assessment is sponsoring the Centre for Education Economics (CFEE) roundtable forum on Evaluating accountability: are present accountability measures an improvement on their predecessors? How might they be re-set to do their job better? on Wednesday, 18 October 2017.
The new progress measures introduced in 2016 are a type of value-added measure, which means that pupils’ results are compared to the achievements of other pupils nationally with similar prior attainment. These measures are designed to encourage schools to offer a broad and balanced curriculum at Key Stage 4, and reward schools for the teaching of all their pupils. At this roundtable, Dr Rebecca Allen, Director of Education Datalab, will discuss how effective Progress 8 and the primary school progress measure have been to meet the goals set by the Government. She will look into the previous metrics and examine their appropriateness for use in the performance tables and by Ofsted. During this forum, Rebecca Allen will also address her recommendations on how the performance metrics can be improved.
