Copenhagen will be welcoming delegates from around the world for this year's annual European Conference on Educational Research (ECER) to discuss the theme of the role of educational research in reforming education and the imperative of constant change. The conference has an exciting line-up of speakers throughout the five-day conference and each will deliver a presentation to tackle the current trends in education and how these can be used to support the development and improvement of reforming education.
At this conference we look forward to hearing our colleagues from Cambridge Assessment's Research Division and Oxford Cambridge and RSA's (OCR) Research and Technical Standards, deliver presentations that explore the current issues in education. Here is the running order:
Tuesday, 22 August 2017 from 17:15 to 18:45 (CEST)
Joanna Williamson, Research Officer, Cambridge Assessment, is delivering a presentation on “Meaningful” destinations: using national data to compare progression to higher education, employment and training from different education pathways in England. She will discuss how students’ destinations after leaving school vary depending on their secondary education.

Frances Wilson, Principal Researcher, OCR, is delivering a presentation on Reform of Practical Science Assessment in England: Impact on Teaching and Learning. She will discuss the impact of the recent reform on teaching and learning over time.

Filio Constantinou, Research Officer, Cambridge Assessment, is delivering a presentation on Formality in students’ writing over time: empirical findings from the UK,to talk about the changes in formality in UK students’ writing over time.
Friday, 25 August 2017 from 15:30 to 17:00 (CEST)
Nicky Rushton, Research Officer, Cambridge Assessment, is delivering a presentation on Developing a framework for coding students’ spelling errors in English, to describe the adaptation of a framework developed by Cambridge Assessment in 2007 so that it could be used for categorising spelling errors in samples of writing.

In November 2016, Cambridge Assessment hosted a research seminar to launch the report of the 2014 phase of Variations in Aspects of Writing in 16+ English Examinations. The report is the latest phase of a unique study, which has been carried out every 10 years since the 1980s, and explores changes in a range of aspects of students’ writing in the context of formal English examinations between 1980 and 2014.
