For over 160 years, Cambridge Assessment has worked with nations around the world to improve education. Interest in international comparisons has blossomed in recent years, and this is therefore an area that has continued to be an important part of our effort as we review the field and make use of the latest developments in comparative methods. We work in close collaboration with national governments and schools, and in doing so always seek to ensure that the advice and services which we provide are grounded in the local context and reflect the specific improvement objectives they are designed to support.
With the rapid growth of interest in international comparisons we thought it important to provide research not just for illumination and reflection on the ways things are, and why, but also with the practical objective of supporting on the ground action to improve educational attainment, equity and engagement in learning. To that effect we have written A Cambridge Approach to Improving Education to assist you in that endeavour.
Following Tim's presentation there will be a response given by Dr John Jerrim from the University College London before the discussion is opened up to the audience. Dr Jerrim has worked extensively with the OECD's Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) data.
