Westminster Education Forum are holding a seminar to explore a recent heightened emphasis from the Government on character. Bene’t Steinberg, Group Public Affairs Director, will be speaking about ‘What is it and what does it do? Some definitions of character’ from 11:40 to 12:30. He will also be chairing the panel debate.
The recent announcement by the Prime Minister of £80m for a new Youth Investment Fund to increase opportunities for young people and support character development. Other recent programmes will also be discussed and explored.
Following the introduction to Parliament of the National Citizen Service Bill, delegates will have the opportunity to share their thoughts on how this may impact the expansion to all 16 – 17 year olds that want to attend and the likely effect on other youth services.
Further sessions will identify best practice in the teaching of character education; consider whether the necessary resources and time in the school day have been made available to successfully embed it into the curriculum more widely; discuss what is needed from character education to prepare young people for life beyond school; and consider its impact on teaching and teacher training.
