The Conservative Education Society will be hosting a seminar at the House of Lords where Tim Oates CBE, Director of Assessment Research and Development, Cambridge Assessment and Robert Peal, West London Free School will be answering the question Why are textbooks so dreadful and what can be done about it? They will explore ideas on how the quality of textbooks in England can be improved.
The presentation will be followed by a question and answer session which delegates are encouraged to ask questions, contribute to the discussion and their share ideas on how to address the current theme in textbooks.
In 2014, Mr Oates carried out work on textbooks and published the report Why Textbooks Counts which he provided an insightful analysis on what can be done to improve textbooks in England. Further work has subsequently been carried out and in April 2016 he launched the Cambridge Approach to Textbooks.
