Samuel Messick claimed that the evaluation of consequences is fundamental to validity. Whether the consequences should be in, or out, of validity theory has been controversial ever since. Designed to encourage participants to identify appropriate boundaries for the concept of validity, Dr Paul Newton (Cambridge Assessment) explored the arguments for and against the integration of 'consequences' alongside similar debates regarding reliability, fairness, social policy and the law.
