Over 140 teaching professionals including researchers and practitioners attended our Parliamentary seminar “Better Training: Better teachers?” on 10 February 2009.
The seminar was hosted by Barry Sheerman MP, Chair of the Children, Schools and Families Select Committee. The Committee is undertaking an inquiry into Initial Teacher Training (ITT) and Continuing Professional Development (CPD) for teachers. Teacher education is a key policy area.
Presentations by our two guest speakers – Professor John Furlong, Director of the Oxford University Department of Education, and Dr David Pedder, Lecturer in Educational Leadership and School Improvement at the University of Cambridge – prompted immense discussion on the national state of initial teacher training and continuing professional development in the UK.
The event is part of a Cambridge Assessment series designed to bring together a wide range of professionals in education to look at ‘big picture’ topics and enable policy makers to access the knowledge of leading experts.
