Cambridge Assessment sets up Asia Pacific office to strengthen ties with education community

09 November 2012

Cambridge Assessment has been a trusted education partner in Asia Pacific for over 130 years. It works with over 2,000 schools in the region who offer Cambridge international qualifications and in partnership with governments, carrying out leading edge and operational research on assessment in education. Today it officially announced the opening of its new Asia Pacific office in Singapore.

Cambridge Assessment Singapore, working alongside Cambridge International Examinations, the world’s largest provider of international education programmes and qualifications for 5 to 19 year olds, will contribute to effective teaching and successful learning in local, state and international schools in the Asia Pacific region – including Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Hong Kong, China and New Zealand.

The operation of Cambridge Assessment Singapore will be led by Dr Ben Schmidt, Regional Director, Asia Pacific, Cambridge International Examinations. Strategically located in Singapore, it represents the perfect base for Cambridge to be part of the vibrant growth of countries in the region and to share its expertise with the region’s education community.

Vice Chancellor, Professor Sir Leszek Borysiewicz said: "Cambridge Assessment Singapore will contribute to the development of effective teaching and successful learning in the Asia Pacific region by providing high quality educational experiences and services for schools, policy makers and assessment professionals."

Chief Executive of Cambridge International Examinations and Chair of Cambridge Assessment Singapore, Ann Puntis said: “Asia Pacific is one of the world’s most important educational regions. It has some of the world’s top performing students, and some of the world’s fastest growing countries - in all of that education matters. We want to understand what’s important educationally in a local context. We are pleased to be able to share our expertise with educators in the region and privileged to work with the very best in the education sector.”

Neil Turrell, Headmaster of Tanglin Trust School in Singapore said: “Cambridge Assessment Singapore will add value to teachers and learners in schools across the region. It will give schools like mine the opportunity to meet with other schools from across the region, share best practice and help our learners be the very best they can be.”

Cambridge Assessment Singapore aims to support programmes in key countries in the region through a wide range of education events and activities in Asia Pacific – from expert debates on key education issues, educational leadership seminars for principals and streamed events online, to comprehensive professional development programmes for teachers and a major educational conference for Cambridge schools in September 2013.
